When embarking ~
March is a match
it has lit the wick
of blossom
budded, ready to…
well, you already know
𓄰
March: you are going, but first.
There are a few things to tend to.
Look around & you will notice it.
Yes, that corner must be cleaned out. Yes, that cobweb is still above the door. Yes, I sense the floor could use a good sweeping, & that the rooms could use a window open within them.
After you look around & tend to it all in your space, you will also begin to nod & say: yes, this also goes for me, too. I too have a corner in me that needs to be cleaned out, a cobweb above my own door, a floor that could use sweeping, a window or two I’d like to open in my heart, in my mind.
And so you do, you will. This is a time for ushering in, after all.
But to usher in, it means you must make the space & place for newness. You must become hospitable to the new.
Burn thyme in the corner, brush the cobweb with a besom of thyme sprigs tied together & use it also for the floor & then let it dangle out the open window so the wind can absolve it of whatever clutter it gathered up on its fragrant leaves.

In Ancient Greece, it was custom to rub the table with fresh mint before dinner, but also before the arrival of guests.
Thyme is in the mint family & so on the full moon, which will light up the night sky on the 7th of March, I invite you to do this:
— Find some fresh or dried thyme
— Boil some water in a pot or a kettle
— As you pluck or place your thyme in a bowl, consider the things you must clear out. It is likely you may not want to clear some of these things from yourself… we humans, unfortunately, like to clutch to our shame & disappointment; we like to overburden ourselves with should have’s & should not have’s, with remorse. These things can be productive, until they are not. All things burst forth, even from the most compact soil, so you can too. And if you truly want to get going, get arriving in that someplace—that some version new—you will need to sacrifice what you cling to of the old that no longer serves its purpose. I don’t know what that is for you, but I imagine you know quite well what it is I am referring to.
— As you pluck or place your thyme in a bowl, I invite you to go slowly: leaf by leaf, even, & with each leaf plucked make it infused with what you need to sacrifice on the altar of the new.
— Add as much thyme as you want or need.
— Cover it with your freshly boiled water & a capful of white vinegar, if you have it.
— Wash your table with it.
— Now, when it is dinner time, I want you to invite the newness of yourself to come dine with you. You might even set out an extra plate or bowl. Be present here, you won’t need your phone for this. Really, besides a nourishing dinner, all you may need is maybe a glass of light-bodied Italian red wine or some seltzer & a candle, lit.

March is the end of a transition & there is energy aplenty for the going. But first, you must clear, relinquish, & become hospitable to what the horizon has for you in its wide, open, sunlit arms.
Now, onwards to this month’s almanac…
