April . 2024
Towards you ~
Vertical as the dawn
here it comes
gather round it
the golden riddle
of sunrise
something reborn.
Not everything comes
but from this wet
dream of daylight
something, someone, you...

April: is thrust outward.
Dear friend, I want you to, too.
Be like that bloom in the photo up above.
Erotic as the raindrop building to its fall, sky in its eye.
Magenta as the desire of that blossom.
It’s the only advice I have for you this month.

That, and this:
I am doing things a little differently this time around.
Honestly, its because of timing, but also because, even if it wasn’t I would want to.
Monday there is a New Moon and solar eclipse that many of you will get to “see” and the rest of us will experience peripherally. Seeing is not always believing, but all the same: who gets to look at a godly hand cupping over the sun in their lifetime? I hope to hear about your eclipse time if you want to share with me. I am sure I will have something to say for myself, too.

So, this is the thing that I am doing differently because of timing and wanting to. Enjoy ~
Horoscopic Reading
Poems & tidbits divined for each of the signs for the New Moon at 19° Aries. Read for your rising, sun, & moon sign if you wish. See what lines, symbols, or images ring a bell in you. Take them with you throughout the lunar month.
Aries: “Armistice” by Sophie Jewett
A trip to the seashore, even if it is too cold to swim. Brass adornments; keep your eye out for brass doorknobs. A small bit of sea salt in your water each morning. And hawthorn, hawthorn, hawthorn.
.
Taurus: “Unaccompanied Anthem” by Rita Dove
What do you come to yourself for? Don’t deny it—that ask from your interior. Footbaths filled with flowers. A little carnelian to wear: you’ll know it when you see it. Aurinia flower essence.
.
Gemini: “Ephemeral Pool” by Tina Mozelle Braziel
It’s a seashell to the ear kind of time: only you can hear the ocean and the sounds it will never make again. You can cry if you want to. And jot down your ideas, too—especially the ones you think you’ll remember later. Hottonia palustris flower essence.
.
Cancer: “Lyre” by Donald Revell
Strings are important. Strings and lace—brocade. Hibiscus tisana and/or a really really nice red wine. Listen to that little voice that speaks like a muse over your shoulder. With your hands, gently wash your face.
.
Drink in the listening: let that fill your cup. As soft as her hair, or as soft as velvet. Take your heart from your sleeve and place it back in your chest: now you know. Sweet Chestnut flower essence.
.
Virgo: “The New Church” by Lucia Cherciu
There are things and people and places for you to lean on now and now is a good time to: you don’t need to do nearly anything alone, not anymore. All the same, keep your flame close. Echinacea (in the garden, in your tea cup, as an essence).
.
Libra: “Dear One Absent This Long While” by Lisa Olstein
Ribbons, ribbons, ribbons. As you step out of the bath: leave one foot in, while the other plants firmly into the tile. It’s not liminal anymore. Mistress of balance, I dare you to bring yourself into the world now. Clematis flower essence.
.
Scorpio: “High Cliff Coming” by Jane Mead
Obviously, I want you to stand at the edge of one. At the edge of a cliff could be at the edge of yourself. Note what you see when everyone else is asleep. Not dreams, but really what is out there in the blue part of the day. Morning glory flower essence & that color to wear.
.
Sagittarius: “Love Song” by Mary Carolyn Davies
What is your favorite love song? Listen to it. Has it changed? Listen for it. The thing about being on guard is that it is so isolating, you know? So let your guard down. At least parts of it. Especially for them. Pink Lady’s Slipper flower essence is good for this kind of relinquishment.
.
Capricorn: “Spelt from Sibyl’s Leaves” by Gerard Manley Hopkins
Stripped (almost) all the way down: its a fresh start. Look at it. The thing you’ve been avoiding and the looking will strip it of its mystique. Time is a snake (it winds, it sheds, it repeats), so remember this, too. And something with fig in it: a tart? And some infused oil to rub your calves with.
.
Aquarius: “Unlocking” by Alice B. Fogel
Press your whole body, belly down, into the earth. This is where you can train your eyes on the smallest of things. If you see a husk on the ground (a shell, a carapace, etc.) pick it up and place it on your altar. Amaranth porridge (with cardamon + maple syrup + ghee), amaranth flower essence (in your water, on your back, at sunset).
.
Pisces: “Between The Griffon and Met Life” by Vincent Katz
Marshmallow: the flavor, the mucilage of its root (and blossom), the color. I wonder how many moments this month will catch you in wonder? Stop in your tracks. The sun will sigh in your stillness. There is joy in people enjoying themselves and it’s to mundane joy you’re invited.

May these offer you guidance & inspiration during this lunar cycle.
Now, onto the almanac…
This month, Lily Herman offers a two-parted sensory experience to the collection (this will be a special treat for my fellow writers out there).
