“None can avoid this purple,” she says,
says Emily Dickinson.
Tomorrow, a new moon / an eclipse / the first of the last three days of March.
Lion or lamb, none can avoid this purple.
𓍯
The purple can be anything but I invite you to think about purple as the color of that which is unavoidable, undeniable, dignified. That which catches you up in its velvet, makes you see now it is time to let go.
Just entertain this with me for a moment.
Like the grape ready on the vine.
Like the bruise vibrant on the thigh.
Like the oyster, shucked and eaten: purple where it once dwelled.
𓍯
Not everything you think will work will work. That’s how it always is. Life: one gigantic experiment, a bruise upon the sun.
And it is a choice: a choice to make.
I want what’s best for you.
What’s best for you is a certain shade of purple that comes from—
a pluck, a bump, a gulp.
𓍯
I’ve tried to believe that repeating the same pattern over and over would fulfill me.
I’ve tried to believe that if only I contorted enough I’d be seen.
I’ve tried to love that which doesn’t know how to love me.
It is all painful, but not as painful as—
turning my back on the purple.
My father used to tell us when we were little: never turn your back on the sea.
Purple / Sea / Grief
on either side of the waves: the shores.
𓍯
That purple is an option: please know this.
And sometimes, the purple will be forced upon you, by some hand (maybe starry, maybe ancestral, certainly) greater than yours or mine.
Purple is the shade of the sky at its darkest before the—
there’s something bigger than what—
it’s the future pushing out of the purple.

Before I sat down to write this, I asked my pendulum to choose an essence for me to sit with while I worked. Goldthread.
The first essence I ever really worked with… the one that set the future out in front of me in a way I never would have expected. My friend Emma’s pendulum chose it for me back then, all the way back then in 2011. It changed my life completely.
And you know, now that I think of it, when I finally made my own goldthread essence in August of 2014, I was also on a precipice. I was about to leave midwifery school—which was heartrending to me—which was both a choice I needed to make and also a choice made for me. It changed my life completely.
𓍯
A few years ago, I wrote a prompt for working with goldthread that I feel compelled to share with you now.
I’m not sure how the effects of this weekend will pan out for you, for us, exactly, but I am certain that something is about to ask you, us to change openly.
I hope that this prompt makes you feel like you are in a dance with that uncertainty, rather than at odds with it:
Sometime this weekend, find a doorway. Let this doorway show itself to you—let it choose you. Maybe it is in your home, maybe it is the doorway of a museum or a shop or a terminal or a vehicle or a mausoleum. Once you’ve found it, step one foot over the threshold, so you are directly into the middle of this doorway. Take a few breaths here, just noticing yourself. Close your eyes. You are ready when an emotion or feeling or image or inspiration arises in you: one you may not have anticipated. Follow this. It is your thread. Take a deep, full inhale and on it: invite that which will bring you a greater sense of rooted harmony into your life. As you exhale release that which is weighing you down, allowing your breath to clear space for you. Slowly start to loosen your stance, adding some soft movements into your body and when you are ready, gently open your eyes and fully step through to the other side. Repeat as desired.

For this new moon’s Horoscopic Reading, I have chosen excerpts of different poems for each of the signs to deliver a poetic message:
what each sign needs to know but doesn’t want to hear.
.
I will leave you on that note with my love and also
with a link to a song that I think could be a great anthem for you
(it is, has been for me—don’t get me started on the whole album, either—the song “Spit” makes me feel like I am going to, like some nebulae, form from “the death throes of massive, short-lived stars”).
Enjoy ~
