The wings of calibration ~
Sometimes, the world
is heavy, has us under,
flips our vertical sight.
Sometimes, the ache
of our disharmony
is only relieved by a kindness
who which who what allows
you to surrender?

November: time to recalibrate.
Picture a pendulum.
It swings this way, it swings that.
Everything in our world moves as a pendulum does: the tides ebb, they flow. The sun rises, it sets. The breath comes in, it goes out. The eye opens, it blinks closed. The heart has two movements, too: one is systole, a contraction; the other diastole, a relaxation.
I could fill this entire missive with pendulous motions, I really could.
Instead I want to get right to the point.

This month you will be challenged to meet yourself in the middle.
Picture a pendulum.
It swings this way, it swings that.
To where have you swung too far, too fully? Which corner of your world are you pitched up into?
Resisting gravity will not make it less tricky to swing back. Nay, it will make the swing back more forceful.
This is about digestion & metabolization, so that you can rejoin forces with your sense of faith.
Faith at in the very seed of itself (L fidēs) means “to trust.”
𓇬
This really is a month to touch base with your faith (trust). But, how to?
I think a big part of it comes from nourishing your center. That core, innate sense of knowing which you have. That tether to which all you do & think & create ripples out from.
Okay so: make me a list (you can send it if that feels potent to you, but really this list is just for you).
Make this list of things that fill your cup. Be sure to include things that fulfill all the elements of your being (mind, heart, body, spirit).
Each day of November, ensure that you are filling your cup with at least one of the things on your list.
This gentle filling will get you in the flow of yourself & will draw you down from the far corners & back into the center of yourself.
And the reason for this re-centering, this calibration, is ultimately to restore your sense of faith, which is to say, trust, so that you can act accordingly & clearly.

The month ahead will call you back & you will have to return, rhythm by rhythm, until you get into the tune of your own song again.
There is a circulation problem that wants to be corrected in November.
Resist the impulse to react & instead, see what happens in its place. What new possibility or new action occurs in this space created by a conscious choice to pause & take a beat between the receiving & the response?

Temperance is a guardian angel. A faery godmother. A well ancestor. A guiding light. The perceptive sight of the subconscious eye.
When Temperance appears, I am reminded of the swing of the pendulum of all that is.
And I am reminded of muscles. How muscles grow strong by tissue tearing & then repairing itself over & over again—these two actions in perpetual dance.
And I am reminded of placing trust in that which appears impossible, or does not appear at all.
My lovely friend, the poet Marta Núñez Pouzols, recently wrote something which reminds me of Temperance, of faith, of trust. She wrote that “it’s time… to keep on doing all the things we can do, even if they don’t seem to matter. To remain open to be surprised: we do not know when something we do or say is going to make a difference.”
𓇬
And so perhaps we, each of us, are the pendulum. And perhaps then Temperance (that angel, godmother, ancestress, light, subconscious) is the rhythm of the swing. And it is this rhythm of the swing we need to trust in.
Our faith is something that can only be given. It is important to have the reserves from which to give it. So that we give it wisely.
There is only so much we can control outside of ourselves. And November will bring us the opportunity to try trust on for size. To swing back to center rhythm by rhythm, note by note, drip by drop. To recalibrate so that we don’t lose faith when we need it most.

Now, onto the almanac…
Enjoy ~
